Unlike you, I've seen it in a controlled, white, sterile setting of the hospital or oncology ward where I worked, not in the cold, brutal darkness of the streets in daylight. Your choice always to see the flame and to honor, but not dwell upon, the unfortunate extinction you see far too often, is a blessing. I don't know how else you could keep going. Thank you for sharing this raw, beautiful observation of these poor people. Like you, my first thought went to the baby.
